Saturday Shop Talk – Our Walk to Town

stamped brass portrait button from Victorian era made into jewelry cocktail ring

Personality: The Youthful and Spirited
Places you'll find yourself: Picking wildflowers and saving their seeds to scatter on your next trip into the village

This ring was created using an antique 20-part stamped brass button from near the Victorian picture button era (1870-1918). Many buttons from this time period featured scenes of people, flora, fauna, and even myths and nursery rhymes. This particular button pictures the profile of young girl in a straw hat.

I fell in love with this button because it reminded me of Anne of Green Gables, which is one of my favorite childhood books. You can just imagine this little girl skipping along a grassy path with basket in hand and her mother trying to keep the girl's dress from getting splashed with mud.

What images do you find yourself most drawn to? Flowers, portraits, etc.?

    1. That would be pretty! I just sold a beautiful ring with a button that had a bumblebee and flower on it. It would be neat to find a butterfly one!

  4. Wow, what a beautiful ring. And, as a big fan of "Anne of GG", I see the reference clearly.

  5. The ring is nice. I find myself drawn to outside cafe scenes or walkways next to the water. And bridges. :)

  6. What a gorgeous ring - and I love it even more for the Anne of Green Gables association (I think this has to be just about my all time favourite book - I recently bought it for my daughter and re-read myself as well).

    Have a wonderful weekend.
