Friday Photo Swoon – Take My Hand

Look at those side cut outs!

Recently I've been picking up vintage gloves here and there. I've shared two with you so far (wrist length, ivory deerskin here and elbow length black here). Gloves have posed a styling challenge for me. That said, they've created an increasing interest as well. I think they're difficult to style because it is part of a lost accessory in the modern world. There are not many people that wear gloves anymore (besides winter gloves). Along with hats, they seem to have unfortunately fallen by the wayside of time and convenience. I very much understand this but it's a shame that we don't at least wear them sporadically. They are such a "finisher" of an outfit. Icing on the cake really. Below is some inspiration, for both you and me, on ways to style gloves. Some are even in color (which I found very helpful in this instance). Do you wear gloves? Any tips on how you style them?

  2. I adore gloves. They create an unmistakable vintage impression.

My problem is my hands -- way too big. I can rarely fit them into modern gloves and have never found a vintage pair that fit. Thus, gloves exists in that category of items I dream about but will never actually enjoy. It's a bigger category than you might expect.

    1. Hmmmm, that does pose a problem. Actually most vintage gloves are too small for me too. Man those girls had teeny grasps! I really need to learn how to sew properly. You too! Then we could make our own and they would be fabulous I'm sure! ;-)

  3. I love - love gloves!! I think they are so pretty with an outfit. Polka dot ones, silk or satin ones, all of them are special. I collect them as well, plus they are great to have on when you haven't had time to touch up your nail polish because you were in a hurry or broke a nail *Wink* xx

  4. Oh these are gorgeous examples and I adore the 3rd photo so much! I must admit, I do like gloves and although I don't wear them in summer, they come out as soon as my coats do - they just finish the look so beautifully! x

  5. Such beautiful pictures! The only times I've ever worn dress gloves were in high school when I went to the prom. I should wear them more often. ☺

  6. Have you been watching Scandal at all? Kerry Washington's character Olivia Pope does some amazing things with elbow length gloves. (A modern version of gloves, if you will).

  7. Amazing gloves! And photographically speaking what a well-done photo is the second photo down with the wrist length stitched leather glove. It looks like a painting of a woman in thought, and it's beautiful.

  8. Hello darling girl! :) I ADORE gloves & I collect them too. They are an easy vintage accessory that is still affordable for this broke little girl. Lol! You can get a lot of millage from a good pair of leather gloves. I have a pair here somewhere that I need to wear again. I don't have vintage clothes but I wear vintage accessories almost daily. :) Lovely post doll. Oh....the one picture looks like Miss Meadows! Xo

  9. I wear fitted brown leather gloves all winter long, but it's true that they're much more seen as just a practical piece of one's wardrobe rather than as a true accessory, these days. But hey--if no one else is wearing them, all the more reason to don a pair, I'd say! :)

  10. Love the photos! (Also, I am absolutely wearing a hat today)

I've been wanting to get a pair of elbow length gloves and wear them with a cape... Too extravagant?
