The Sunday Snag – Trinket in the Treasure Box

Early 1900s filigree metal orchid brooch
This is my very first vintage brooch, friends! Yes indeedy, I've never had a vintage brooch (I've only ever had one brooch at all!) and now I have this lovely little lady. She is quite an intricate piece too! Made from tiny twisted curls of sterling silver, this filigree brooch takes on an appearance of delicately spun lace.

The orchid shape is what first caught my eye and then when I got close I saw all the lacey goodness. Judging by the simple C clasp and the hinge type, this is most likely an Edwardian piece although it could be slightly later (circa 1900-1935). I found her laying quietly among brazen 60s pieces at an antique mall and she was less than $20!

I had originally started my quest to find a vintage brooch for this blouse jacket. It had a small chemical stain that would be easily covered by a brooch. The thread on that jacket's embroidery has a silver tint, so I wanted something along that vein. This is actually quite perfect with it because the embroidery has a floral motif which pairs wonderfully with the orchid!

Don't worry, I have an outfit post coming soon that incorporates three past Sunday Snags, including this newly treasured trinket.

Saturday Shop Talk – Star-Crossed Lovers

Chandelier earrings made from actual chandeliers!

Personality: The Ever Romantic
Places you'll find yourself: Always searching for your one true love despite any obstacle

Glass Chandelier earrings made from actual chandeliers by ChatterBlossom

These beautiful chandelier earrings are made from actual chandeliers! I took pieces of a pressed glass chandelier and turned them into dangle earrings. How fun, right?! They have beautiful faceted angles and the light just flickers and plays around them. You might think they would be heavy, but indeed they're not. I have heavier metal earrings myself and these were quite comfortable.

Friday Photo Swoon – Scarved for Life

1940s head scarf

vintage pin curl setting #pincurl #vintage

Yesterday, I showed you my hair in a pin curl setting under wraps beneath a red silk scarf (view here). Today, I'm sharing a few vintage photographs that inspired that look.

A pin curl setting isn't super easy, nor does it happen fast. If you're going to do all that blasted work, you better protect it so it isn't time wasted. One way to do this is to wrap the curled setting tightly in a head scarf or turban wrap. You can choose a multitude of styles, but it is best to choose a breathable natural fabric if you want your setting to dry. Mine from yesterday is a super lightweight raw silk in a long rectangular scarf shape. If you're doing a dry setting, it doesn't much matter what you use. Just make sure to secure it with a couple bobby pins so that it stays in place. Speaking of self promotion, there are some cute bobby pins in my shop that would be perfect to secure a scarf! :-)

You can tie it in a bow or knot it up top like above for a playful daytime do or you can choose a larger scarf and wrap it around the neck and loosely tie it behind for an elegant look.

There are so many ways to tie your scarf. You can do a super simplistic one like the lovely ladies above or you can get quite creative like this fantastic example below.

Head scarves aren't just for vintage lovers either. There are tons of examples worn today. Have you ever worn a head scarf? How did you style it?

Thursday Thrill – Wrapped and Ready

50s high waist plaid shorts and head scarf1950s high waist plaid shorts and scarf on ChatterBlossom

These photos were shot during date week right before we jumped in the car to head towards our B&B adventure. I had my hair up in pin curls that morning in anticipation of that night's Bucket List Outfit. You can't go around in public with a pin curl setting so I had to figure out a way to make a look work with them. I decided to grab my 50s high waist shorts (seen here on a Sunday Snag) and pair it with a v-neck knit top in blue. I just wrapped my hair up in a red/gold print silk scarf and headed out the door with hubs and luggage in tow. They had bicycles at the B&B that we got to use and ride around the grounds a bit. This outfit was perfect for a bit of sight seeing on bike!
